It meant customers couldn’t shop in the Asda Store on the Nelson/Colne boundary for about two hours.

Staff were busy pumping out and cleaning up after a leak. It is understood the only area affected was the foyer and a spokeman said: “Our colleagues worked quickly to get the store open again.”

Lots of people waited outside, and they looked highly delighted once the doors were re-opened.

Asda general store manager Mr Mark Coleman said: “We knew the heatwave was going to end at some point but our Colne store got a bit of a surprise when the roof sprung a leak on Monday.

“Customers needn’t worry about bringing their wellies or arm bands; we got the store back up and running within a couple of hours!”

As a result of the storm, there was lots of heavy rain across the region but there was no reports of serious flooding.

It seemed Asda was the most affected but the staff rapidly pumped the water out so that customers could get in again by about 6pm.
