Five-star ratings for 10 Burnley food businesses

Coun. John Harbour, the council’s executive member responsible for environmental health, said: “We know that many people are now looking out for the distinctive green and black ratings stickers which are issued after an inspection by the council’s environmental health officers.

“Many businesses who display their rating say it’s having a positive impact on their business in terms of customer confidence, reputation and numbers of customers.”

The 10 are Bracewell Street Nursery Limited, Continentals, Co-op Stores, the kitchen of Hapton Church of England and Methodist Primary School, Heather Grange Care Home, KFC, McAuley Mount, Paddock Lodge Care Home, Park House and St Mary Magdalene’s kitchen.

Karen Davies, the council’s environmental health and licensing manager, said: “The majority of the borough’s food premises achieve the higher 4 or 5 rating.

“We want to encourage our food businesses to benefit from their high food hygiene rating by displaying their certificate and stickers. The high scores encourage more customers to visit them.”

Under the scheme, food outlets are given a rating of 0-5, with 5 being the highest, based on a range of criteria around food hygiene and safety, and management standards.
