Five arrests after Burnley armed stand-off drama

FIVE men were arrested by armed police on suspicion of firearms offences during a tense stand-off.

Dramatic scenes unfolded in Ivory Street, off Padiham Road, early on Monday morning when police armed with machine guns cordoned off a house on the terraced street.

Four Asian men and a white man eventually left the house several hours later with their hands above their heads. They were handcuffed and taken away for questioning.

All five were bailed and must return to Burnley Police Station on Thursday, April 7th.

Crowds of people gathered near the terraced row after scores of police vans carrying dog-handlers and armed police descended on Ivory Street at around 7-30 a.m.

Officers took up positions in front and at the back of the house while others cordoned off both ends of the street. The men eventually walked out of their own accord shortly after 10 a.m.
