Keen fishermen Stephen Heap, Hadyn Browne, Simon Leigh, Howard Jackson, Darrell Howe, Jonny Atkinson and Shaun Atkinson will set off on Monday, May 5th, from Blackpool for the Coast 2 Coast Carp Rod Race.

There they will have 48 hours to catch a 20lb carp before moving onto the next stop on their trip which will take them to Lancaster, Clitheroe, Huddersfield and Selby before finishing on the east coast in Hull.

Camping along the way, the team will have to catch a carp weighing 20lb before moving on to the next destination.

Stephen (46), who used to live in Burnley and now lives in Barnoldswick, said they are aiming to raise £25,000 for Beaumont College in Lancaster, a further education college for young people with physical and learning disabilities. The college is run by disability charity Scope.

“It’s the first time we’ve ever done anything like this. I’m excited but a bit scared because I don’t want to let anybody down. We need to get a 20lb carp at each place. We’ve made sure we’ve chosen big lakes with big carps in them. I’m looking forward to it.”

The group hopes to arrive in Hull by May 18th.
