Firefighters remain overnight at scene of Burnley house fire as investigation into cause launched

Firefighters remained at the scene of a serious house fire in Burnley last night to ensure there were no signs of it spreading.

Crews, who were also checking for any further hot spots, were at the property in Eliza Street where a blaze broke out yesterday morning just before 8am.

Police closed Todmorden Road from the junction of Lyndhurst Road to Helena Street to traffic while firefighters from Burnley, Nelson and Hyndburn brought the flames under control and prevented it from spreading to neighbouring homes.

Officers also evacuated a small number of properties on the street due to the ferocity of the flames and smoke.

Four fire engines from Burnley, Nelson and Padiham along with an aerial ladder platform from Hyndburn and the air support unit, were in attendance at the scene for several hours. Crews wearing six sets of breathing apparatus tackled the flames.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze has now been launched.
