Firefighters free trapped woman at Burnley care home

A-62-YEAR-OLD woman was rescued by firefighters after becoming trapped in her bedroom at a Burnley care home.

The woman, whose leg was in a plaster cast, collapsed behind the door at Lower Ridge Nursing Home at around 7 a.m. this morning.

Staff at the Belvedere Road home could not get into the room to help her so fire crews were called in.

Wooden panels were removed from the door frame and firefighter jumped inside to free the stricken woman.

She was given a precautionary check up by paramedics at the scene but did not need hospital treatment.
