Nine firefighters battled a suspicious house blaze in Burnley in the early hours of this morning.

Crews were called to the property in Plumbe Street around 2-30am where they found flames coming out of the downstairs windows and smoke billowing from upstairs.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus searched the house but found no one inside.

Crew manager Andy Coulton said the incident was the latest in a series of suspicious fires in the town over the last week and urged members of the public to be vigilant. Anyone with information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
