A fire broke out in the former Habergham School in Burnley, in the early hours of this morning.

Two fire engines from Burnley and Padiham fire stations attended the fire in Kiddrow Lane at 4-15am.

The fire involved a waste bin inside the now derelict building of the former school.

Firefighters used two breathing apparatus, one hose reel and two triple extension ladders to extinguish the blaze.

Crews remained on the scene for some time afterwards.

The derelict site is due to be redeveloped into a location for hundreds of new homes.
