Pupils at Burnley’s doomed University Technical College are refusing to give up the fight – and have prepared petitions, banners and a Facebook page to help their cause.

Student George Speak (15) said he and his classmates were devastated when it was announced that UTC Lancashire would close in August, just one year into their studies at the college in Trafalgar Street.

George said: “I want us all to stay as a group. We have to try to stop the college from closing. That is why we are placing banners around town and preparing this petition. We must fight for what we want and not stop until it is achieved.”

The £10m. college was seen as a flagship education centre which would create a new wave of engineering young talent in the area, but dwindling student numbers have resulted in its premature closure.
