Ex-nightclub boss (53) dies

Mr Michael Stubbs (pictured right), who was known as Mick, will be remembered by many as a member of the original consortium that resurrected the Angels Nightclub in Curzon Street, Burnley, in the ‘80s and ‘90s.

He was also involved with the Plane Tree pub. One of his business ventures was Be-Bop Badges, which he launched with Mike Leonard of Colne. The pair sold badges to nightclub revellers and the venture took them to Ibiza where they supplied badges to the island’s nightclubs.

Born in Redhill, Surrey, Mr Stubbs moved to Burnley as a child and attended Heasandford Primary and Towneley High Schools. After leaving school he ran his own newsagent’s shop in Parker Lane, Burnley.

In the 1980s, Mr Stubbs became general manager at Hebden Brothers’ garage in the town. He had a keen interest in cars and was an accomplished rally driver.

He moved to Spain in his 40s but returned to England two years ago and made his home in West Yorkshire, where his funeral takes place today at 3 p.m. at Park Wood Crematorium in Park Road, Elland, near Leeds.
