Ex grocer and policeman Lynn dies

Mr Lynn Millard was well known in the Burnley area for his work as a commercial photographer and film-maker, working at weddings and community functions, such as walking days.

He was also a freelance photographer for local newspapers, as well as a Humanist preacher at funerals.

Wife of the late Muriel, Mr Millard leaves sons Nigel, Paul and Mark, as well five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mark said: “My father was a very outgoing person who had many interests as reflected by his very varied working life. He started work as a police clerk after the war and later went on to serve as a PC for seven years.

“He then opened a grocers shop in Nairne Street. He later sold the business to work as a photographer for the Grocers’ Gazette.

“Dad was a very smart gentleman, with a good sense of humour, who was a devoted father.”

Mr Millard also supported various local causes including the Probus, Pendleside Hospice, Burnley Civic Trust and the Weavers’ Triangle.

Mr Millard, whose wife died 12 years ago, lived in the Rosehill area of Burnley.

Mark added: “Dad was Burnley born and bred and was very interested in the town, its people and its traditions.

“He would also lead Humanist funerals at Burnley Crematorium for people who did not necessarily have a faith.

“He was a Humanist but also had a great interest in religion in general.

“He had lots of books on all religions and would take part in theological debates on the radio.”

Mr Millard’s funeral will take place tomorrow
