A former Burnley man who made his career on the high seas is celebrating his diamond wedding with his Scottish bride he met as a young sailor.
Terence John and Nessie O’Hara have travelled the world but have always had a strong affection for Burnley and their friends and relatives who live in the area.
Mr O’Hare (80) grew up in Burnley, but had a sad start to his life. His mother died when he was two, so he was brought up by aunties and was part of a very large family.
He joined the Royal Navy at 16, became a Sick Bay petty officer and was keen to improve his education.
Romance struck on the Isle of Bute. Nessie (77) was just 15 when they met and they were married two years later, on December 30th, 1954.
They now live in Spain and enjoy regular visits from their family. The couple have four children and eight grandchildren.
