A carpet of poppies is to be grown to mark the 100th anniversary of the First World War.
The Co-operative Funeralcare branches in Burnley and Brierfield are joining a mounting campaign to encourage people to plant poppies now so that they will bloom in the spring.
Free poppy seeds are being given out by the Co-Op to local organisations, churches, clubs, schools and residential homes.
Sarah Bolton, from The Co-operative Funeralcare, said: “To commemorate the huge sacrifice made by millions of men and women during the Great War, we are joining the campaign to help cover the UK in real Flanders poppies during 2014.”
Any organisation wishing to plant British native poppy seeds should contact The Co-operative Funeralcare on 426146 or 619966 or pop into the funeral home branches in Colne Road, Burnley, or Colne Road, Brierfield.
