Emma who works in public health for NHS Durham and Darlington has always been active and loves the outdoors, but didn’t really start running competitively till she went to university in 2008. There, she joined an athletic club as a way of meeting new people.

Now a member of Accrington Road Runners club, Emma has completed three marathons, a triathlon, four adventure races, and numerous other road and fell races. She ran the 26.2 miles around London in a very respectable three hours and 39 minutes and said that she was “over the moon” with her time.

Emma said: “I decided to raise money as a thank you for all fantastic support that Pendleside Hospice gives to families and friends in East Lancashire, including my grandpa, Richard Rawstron, who was in their care.

“I hope to do more challenges overseas in the future and continue to raise money for such a worthy cause. Thank you again Pendleside Hospice, for the amazing work you do.”

The money raised by Emma will help the hospice to provide care to local people diagnosed with cancer and other life-limiting illnesses. The cost of providing care increases year-on-year in response to demand from services. Current annual running costs are £3.7 million, of which more than £2.7 million has to be raised from fund-raising events and donations.
