Eight in court accused of major fraud

Eight people charged in connection with a major fraud conspiracy have been sent to Burnley Crown Court for trial.

The offences are alleged to have been committed in Nelson between 2009 and 2013 and the defendants all appeared before magistrates, where they were granted bail to their appearance at the higher court on June 9th.

The defendants are:

Feeraz Begum (44) and Mohammed Fayyaz (49), both of Reedley Road, Brierfield; Mohammed Nawaz (42), of Vernon Street, Nelson, and Mohammed Sarfraz (51), of Hartley Street, Nelson, who are accused of three counts of conspiring to commit fraud by abuse of position.

Farhat Afzar (49), of Kelswick Drive, Nelson, Anam Iqbal (24), of York Street, Nelson, and Sarah Irshad (32), formerly of Vernon Street, Nelson, but now living in Cambridge Crescent, High Wycombe, are charged with entering an arrangement to facilitate the acquisition of criminal property.

Asima Parveen (29), of Camden Street, Nelson, is charged with false accounting.
