HALLS of residence housing 96 students could be built in Burnley.
Plans have been submitted to Burnley Council to build a five-storey block in Royle Road, close to the Burnley College and UCLan campus in Princess Way.
The proposed development will first involve the demolition of two shops on the site, which lies close to the railway viaduct between Arch Street and Sydney Street.
The stores will be relocated into the ground floor of the new building, which will include 96 en-suite bedrooms arranged over four floors and the ground floor will house communal bin storage facilities, secure cycle storage room, mail room and laundry facility.
Agent Mr Alan Kinder said the proposals were in “direct response to the needs for student accommodation associated with the development of courses planned for the UCLan campus nearby” and a “scarcity” of appropriate accommodation for students. The residential accommodation will be accessed by stairs and a lift.
