Hameldon Community College girls’ cricket team ‘try their best’

A team of Year 8 girls from Hameldon Community College took part in a recent competition at Burnley Cricket Club.

Lining up against the town’s other secondary schools, Hameldon got off to the perfect start with a convincing win over Blessed Trinity with Katie Broomfield batting superbly.

Unfortunately for Hameldon, it proved to be their only win as defeats against Shuttleworth, Unity and Sir John Thursby teams followed.

Individually, Tamsila Hussain, Charlie Tattersall and Katie were highlighted by onlookers as players who showed a real talent for the game and were encouraged to take it further in the future.

A school spokesman said: “Each girl can be proud of their effort and willingness to ‘always try their best throughout the tournament.”

The full squad was as follows: Katie Broomfield, Phoebe Pounder, Taome Liddiard, Tamsila Hussain, Charlie Tattersall, Leah Birkett, Leah Walsh, Rebecca Bartle and Danielle Sproule.
