A teacher and a friend.

That was how a pupil described teacher Mrs Linda Boothman when he nominated her for an award.

And thanks to student Ashley Jones, Mrs Boothman made a shortlist of just five teachers in Lancashire for the Outstanding Teacher at the prestigious Education Rocks awards night held at Blackburn College. The awards are staged to recognise the county’s top teachers, pupils and schools.

Mrs Boothman, who is a nurture group KS3 co-ordinator at Shuttleworth College in Padiham, was described as “amazing’’ by Ashley.

He told the judges: “Mrs Boothman is always there for any students and is very helpful. She never shouts and is not just a teacher but a friend also.’’

Held in conjunction with radio station Rock FM Mr James McCann, who is the Director of Finance at Blackburn College, said there had been some outstanding nominees this year.

He said: “It was hard to pick a winner as everyone deserved credit for their hard work and dedication.’’
