East Lancashire hospitals braced for deaths report
Staff at East Lancashire NHS Trust are bracing themselves for the release of a report into higher than expected death rates.
The investigation, which has been carried out by NHS medical director Prof Sir Bruce Keogh, is set to detail failings at 14 trusts in England thought to have had “excess” death rates going back years.
The Government ordered the investigation following the Mid Staffordshire scandal in which hundreds of patients were found to have died needlessly.
The findings are expected to be announced at 12-30pm today.
