Earby man charged in high-profile police blitz on ‘cross border’ criminals

FOUR people have been charged following a high-profile police operation on Friday.

David Baker (22), of Kenilworth Drive, Earby, has been charged with driving while disqualified and using a motor vehicle without insurance. He has been bailed to appear at Burnley Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Thursday March 10th.

Ben Baines (20), of Station Road, Haydock, has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving and burglary in a dwelling and theft. A 17-year-old from Haydock has also been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving and burglary in a dwelling and theft. Both men have been released on bail to appear at Chorley Magistrates’ Court on April 15th.

Liam Scott (21), of West End Road, Haydock, has been charged with aggravated vehicle taking and dangerous driving, burglary in a dwelling and theft, driving a motor vehicle other than in accordance with a licence and using a motor vehicle without insurance. He has been remanded in custody to appear at Chorley Magistrates’ Court on Monday, March 14th.

In addition, a 37-year-old man who was wanted on warrant was arrested and 30 vehicles were seized as part of the operation.

Officers stopped motorists on routes into the county from Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Cumbria and West Yorkshire. The action day was the first in a series of dates to crackdown on cross-border crime.

Around 200 officers were involved in the operation.
