Dream team clinch victory in school's footy final

A once-in-a-lifetime chance to play on the hallowed ground that is Turf Moor, home to their footballing heroes, was thrill enough for this promising young team.

But when they clinched victory in the Burnley District Girls’ football final that was the icing on the cake for Padiham Primary School.

After working hard all season and honing their skills with weekly training sessions against the boys, the girls played a tense final against Burnley’s Wellfield Primary School and won 1-0.

Proud family and friends gathered at the ground to watch the match and the teams were beaming as they were led onto the pitch through the players’ entrance.

Coached by sports co-ordinators Mr Corey Hope and Mr Harry Leyland and PE teacher Mr Sam Chambers, the girls, who are Elisha Harrington, Paige Knowles, Frankie Brown, Tanisha Newton, Libby Crabtree, Holly Martin and Chantelle Palmer, each received a medal.
