Detectives investigate three waste disposal centres in “body in skip” riddle

DETECTIVES probing the discovery of a man’s body in a skip are now investigating three waste disposal sites across East Lancashire.

The man, who is white and believed to be between 30 and 50, was found by workers at the Whinney Hill Road landfill site in Accrington at 8-50 a.m. today.

Officers shut down the Lancashire County Council-owned site to carry out an examination of the scene.

The new household waste disposal site at the Heasandford Industrial Estate was shut down by police at 9-30 a.m. while officers spoke to staff and scoured CCTV footage.

A third recycling centre at Corporation Street in Colne was later closed as detectives searched for further clues to the man’s death which is currently being treated as “unexplained”.

A post mortem examination to establish the cause of death was due to be carried out this afternoon.

Police are now appealing to the public for help identifying the man and have called on friends or relatives to contact 08451 25 35 45 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
