Burnley magistrates were told Christopher McCormick (56) handed over money for the papers but not for the other items.

The defendant said he committed the offence as he had no money and was suffering from depression.

McCormick, of Hambledon View, Read, admitted theft at the store’s Burnley branch.

He was fined £80, with £50 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.
