David Sagar (39), from Read, took on the London Marathon to support the kidney charity which helps people like his 67-year-old dad John. The father-of-one tackled the gruelling 26-mile race to collect donations for the Lancashire and South Cumbria Kidney Patient Association.

The former Edge End High School pupil ran the course in an impressive three hours and 33 minutes – beating last year’s time by four minutes.

David, who took up running less than three years ago, said: “It was a brilliant day. It was really nice that we had a 30 second silence at the start of the race and there were people along the route with banners for Boston.

“The race was tough because of the heat. We had trained up here where it was cold but it was 18 degrees on the day so it really zapped it out of you. I saw my family at mile 23 and gave them a hug – they all came down to see me. I beat my time last year by four minutes.” David’s efforts saw him collect nearly £2,000 for the charity.
