Dancers perform for the Queen in historic parade

PROUD PARTICIPANTS: The young pupils of Burnley Dance Centre

The pupils from Burnley Dance Centre were invited to represent the Royal Academy of Dance, and performed as part of the parade down the Mall, which was broadcast live on television.

Paula Scales, principal of Burnley Dance Centre, who performed with the children, said: “It was a special event and we feel both honoured and proud to be involved in this part of history.

“The children range from 10 to 13 years of age and all study the Royal Academy of Dance examination syllabus.

“The pupils had to learn dance which was choreographed by Lynn Wallis, artistic director of the RAD.

“We were given threee weeks to prepare before we travelled to London to perform in the 90s section of the parade with other RAD dancers from around the UK. Only 25 school around the UK were chosen to perform.

“We performed the dance twice in a parade that travelled down the Mall and Birdcage Walk, back to Horse Guards Parade. As we approached Buckingham Palace, the Royal Family sat watching our performance.”
