Kenneth Murgatroyd (53) repeatedly punched managing director David Walling after the defendant turned up unexpectedly at the matrimonial home he formerly shared with his wife Caroline and grown-up children in Helmshore. He had to be pulled off the victim by his two sons as his wife screamed for him to stop the early hours violence.

Burnley Crown Court heard Mr Walling was left in shock and suffering from a loss of confidence after suffering the nasty injuries at Murgatroyd’s hands on May 16th.

Murgatroyd, who has never been in trouble before, was spared jail after a judge said he had now lost his good character.

The defendant, of Mill Lane, Hapton, admitted inflicting grievous bodily harm. He received 12 months in prison, suspended for a year and was told to pay £500 compensation and £250 costs.
