D-Day for biggest cuts in Burnley’s history

COUNCILLORS are due to rubber stamp plans for the biggest cuts Burnley Town Hall has ever faced tonight.

At a meeting of the borough council, members are set to vote on historic cuts which would see services slashed and 15% of the workforce axed in a bid to generate £3m. savings.

Under detailed plans drawn up by council bosses 67 jobs are expected go with a further 28 positions axed in areas from business services to housing and neighbourhoods.

The council has already indicated the cuts will mean the end of the authority’s involvement with Spirit of Sport as well as reduced maintenance in the town’s parks and a reduction in planning department staff.
