They are fed up with drivers ignoring the 20mph speed limit on Scott Park Road, Burnley, and using the route as a “rat run” to avoid heavy traffic.

The “20’s plenty for us” protest has been organised by Green Party member and campaigner Andy Fewings who also lives in the area.

He said: “We have received overwhelming feedback about the number of cars that break the speed limit in Scott Park Road and also St Matthew’s Street.

“Part of the problem is the lack of signage in the area to let drivers know it is a 20mph zone and also the fact it is used regularly as a rat run for motorists to get from Manchester Road to Burnham Gate.

“We just want drivers to be aware they are speeding and for them to slow down. The entrance to scott Park is on here and there are a lot of children and dogs around and speeding cars pose a real danger to them.”

The demonstration starts at 10am at the park entrance in Scott Park Road and will last for around an hour. All residents from the area are welcome to go along.
