Criminals face Christmas behind bars

A FESTIVE crackdown on Burnley criminals is warning troublemakers they could spend Christmas behind bars.

The operation will see officers raid the homes of suspects throughout December.

Operations support units, drugs dogs, intelligence units, CID and local police teams will all work together to target burglars, car thieves and drug dealers.

“This Christmas we will be visiting people suspected of committing burglary and car crime among other offences,” said Det. Insp. Martin Melvin, who is co-ordinating the operation.

“Criminals should be under no illusions. If they are committing crime, they may face Christmas behind bars.”

The crackdown comes hot on the heals of a case of a drug dealer sent to prison for more than two years.

Drug supplier Leighton Foster (21), of Baker Street, appeared before Burnley Crown Court after admitting possession with intent to supply Class B drugs. He was arrested after police raided a house in Sefton Terrace, and seized cash, cannabis bush and bags of cannabis.

Det. Insp. Melvin added: “I hope this reassures people and demonstrates the police are committed to reducing crime even further.”
