Woman slaps attacker across face

A 54-year-old woman fought off a cowardly robber after he tried to steal her handbag as she walked home from a friend’s house.

The victim was walking along Briercliffe Road, Burnley, near to the bus stop by Haydock Street when she was grabbed from behind by a man shortly after midnight (Saturday).

The attacker grabbed the woman’s hair but after a brief struggle she managed to slap him to the right side of his face and he ran off empty handed.

The offender is described as a white male and Det. Sgt Alisa Wilson from Burnley CID said: “This has been a terrifying ordeal for the victim and she has displayed a tremendous amount of bravery. I would urge anyone who may have witnessed the robbery or who knows the identity of her attacker to contact police on 101 quoting log reference 46 of 7th March 2015.”
