A thug who attacked a woman in Padiham, punching her in the face, is being hunted by police.

The incident happened in Lune Street around 9-15pm on Thursday.

The 40-year-old victim was sat on a bench next to the river when a man on a bike approached her and attempted to steal her handbag. He then punched her in the face before riding off in the direction of Tesco. The woman received bruising to her face.

The man was wearing dark clothing and was riding a black mountain bike.

Det. Insp. Marie Haworth, from Burnley CID, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and who witnessed the incident to come forward and contact us. It may well be that some saw this man riding in the area on his bike so I would ask people to get in touch.

“The victim is recovering from her injuries and although she wasn’t seriously hurt, she has certainly been left shaken following her frightening ordeal.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Burnley CID on 101 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
