The move follows concerns from residents in the Bowland Avenue area of Burnley, regarding suspicious activity in the early hours of the morning.

A spokesman for Burnley and Padiham Police said: "CCTV shows possibly a man trying car doors. We have also had other car crime in the surrounding area. Local officers are dealing with ongoing enquiries relating to this crime.

"Please lock all doors. Don't leave your belongings on show. Store them in the boot or take them with you. You may know your purse has nothing inside it, but leaving it on the passenger seat is a huge temptation for some people as they think it's full of cash and cards. Let's avoid the temptation."

Police are advising car owners to follow simple steps in order to avoid becoming a victim of car crime
