Two men have been arrested on suspicion of drugs offences after police stopped a car in Burnley last night.

Officers from the immediate response team were driving along Eastern Avenue when they witnessed a gold Golf R driving at high speed in the opposite direction.

The patrol car managed to get behind the vehicle and requested it to stop on Casterton Avenue. On approaching the vehicle one of the occupants was seen to secrete something down his trousers.

Both occupants were searched and were found to be in possession of controlled drugs, snap bags and several mobile phones.

The duo were arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. The driver also appeared under the influence of drugs so was further arrested and was found to be under the influence of cannabis.

Numerous searches were conducted at the offenders' home addressesand large quantities of Class A, B and C drugs were recovered along with £3,300 in cash and numerous items linked to drug dealing including phones, packaging and lists of customers.

The two offenders remain in custody awaiting interviews.

Burnley and Padiham Police have said they are committed to tackling serious and organised crime in order to keep communities safe.
