Police are appealing for information after a robbery at Hebrew Road Post Office in Burnley on Friday.

A man entered the post office around noon and threatened the shop assistant with a thick metal bar before demanding that she hand over the contents of the till.

He asked the woman to put the money into a white carrier bag, which she handed over before the man fled the shop, turning left out of the post office onto Hebrew Road. It is thought that he got away with a small quantity of bank notes.

He is described as white, around 5ft.10in. to 6ft. tall, of a skinny build and is thought to be around 25 years old. He spoke with a local accent and was wearing a grey hooded top, tracksuit bottoms and a scarf around his face.

Det. Sgt Alisa Wilson of Burnley CID said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the shop assistant which has left her badly shaken.”

Anyone with information can 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
