“He left two women - one of whom was in her 80s - with serious injuries and several of his victims have said they are still fearful leaving their homes. He also caused worry among residents.

“Thankfully he is now embarking on a stretch of time behind bars which I hope he uses to reflect on the consequence of his actions.

Lancashire Constabulary also hopes it sends a message that Lancashire Police take all crimes of this nature seriously and will pursue those responsible to ensure justice is served.”

Powell, of Spring Street, Accrington, carried out the offences against nine women and one man, on two days in October 2018 and two days in March 2019.
