Detectives are hunting two men suspected of stealing money from a cash machine at a Burnley 24-hour garage.

The men were spotted acting suspiciously on the forecourt of Kitchens Garage in Trafalgar Street on Monday night.

Police were called, but when officers arrived the men were seen leaving the scene and it was discovered that a quantity of cash had been stolen from the ATM machine at the petrol station.

It is believed the police helicopter was scrambled in the hunt for the men – but no arrests have been made.

Officers have been speaking to any witnesses about the incident which happened around 10-15pm.

Police have not yet released a description of the men in question.

Det. Sgt Louise Darcy, of Burnley CID, said: “We are still in the early stages of this investigation. If anybody has any information about it please come forward.”

Bosses at the Blackburn-based Kay Group, which owns Kitchens Garage, did not offer a comment on the theft.

Anybody with any information is asked to call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
