POLICE are appealing for information after a man exposed himself to a schoolgirl as she walked to school in Burnley.

Around 8-30 a.m. on May 6th, the 14-year-old girl was walking along a path which runs between the George IV pub and Cheapside shops, off Padiham Road, when she turned around and saw a man staring at her.

She continued walking and when she turned around for a second time, the man was touching himself inappropriately. The girl continued walking to Padiham Road and found a passer-by who went to look for the man, however, he had left the area.

The man is described as white, aged between 40 and 50, of medium build with short dark hair. He was wearing a dark blue coat and trousers.

DI Simon Cheyte appealed for anyone with information to contact police.

He said: “This happened in broad daylight and I would appeal to anyone who may have been in the area at the time to think back to try to remember if they saw anything at all suspicious in the area that could help us with our inquiries.

“I would also appeal for anyone who may recognise the description of this man to come forward and contact police.”

Anyone with any information can contact police on 08451 25 35 45 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
