POLICE are investigating after a man in his 50s was subjected to a serious assault in Burnley town centre.
Pools of blood were clearly visible on Saturday morning in Bull Street where a man suffered head injuries in the attack at 2 a.m. that morning.
Police cordoned off the scene as crime scene investigators gathered evidence. One man has been arrested and is helping police with their inquiries.
Det. Sgt Mark Gillibrand said: “The man who was attacked was taken to hospital with head injuries after a serious assault. However, he has since discharged himself.
“No weapons were used in the assault but it was serious. One man is in custody but we are appealing for witnesses to come forward. The area where the assault took place is very close to a number of very busy town centre bars so there must have been a lot of people in the area at the time.”
Anyone with information can call police on 472130 or Crimestoppers, in confidence, on 0800 555 111.
