Post Office staff threatened with machetes

Police are seeking information about an armed robbery at an Accrington post office on July 3rd.

At around 11a three masked men raided the post office in Blackburn Road in the Rising Bridge area.

They entered the building and threatened the postmistress, her husband and their son with machetes.

The offenderds then made demands for money and managed to steal a substantial amount of cash thought to be thousands of pounds.

They have then made off in a red Volvo estate type car in the direction of Roundhill Lane.

Det. Insp Martin Melvin from East CID said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the postmistress and her family, but fortunately they were not injured in the ordeal.

“I would like to reassure the public that we are on with our initial inquiries including trying to identify and look through any potential CCTV that could assist us with our inquiries.

“If you witnessed anything suspicious or you know anything about this incident at all, please get in touch with us at your earliest opportunity.”

The three men were described as wearing black tracksuit style tops and bottoms, third male wearing grey tracksuit.
