The message comes after a series of reports involving fly tipping, including biological waste in a number of areas withing the Ribble Valley, namely being the Nick of Pendle Hill and Waddington Fell.

A Ribble Valley Police spokesman said: "Please can we remind everyone that fly tipping is illegal and anyone caught carrying out this act will be dealt with accordingly. Several people have been spoken to in connection with this and over the next few weeks we will be closely monitoring the problem. The type of waste we are referring to is of a specialised nature, some of it being biological waste, none of which you would want to get into the water course. This waste could not be disposed of at the local authority recycling centres, which have recently been suspended due to COVID-19. As a result of the recent upsurge in fly tipping, Environmental Health officers have arranged for the areas to be cleaned to ensure your safety and in one case the offenders have been spot fined and are liable for the clean-up costs. Please keep vigilant and report anything you think is suspicious."

If anyone sees any activity of fly tipping, please ring 101 or call Ribble Valley Borough Council on 01200 425111.
