The incident is believed to have taken place in the day time or evening at the property in Chipping Road and goods were taken, although police cannot say at this stage which items were stolen.

Sgt Kevin Day, of Clitheroe Police, has been investigating the incident. He is urging residents to make sure their home security is up to date.

He said: "The house burgled is in a very remote location, however, opportunist thieves can strike anywhere. That's why it's important to keep doors and windows locked at all times and take measures to protect your homes such as leaving the radio and lights on when out.

"Hide all keys, including car keys, out of sight and install a visual burglar alarm."

Anyone with information regarding the break-in in Chaigley on Monday is asked to contact police on 101.
