Police officer deliberately knocked over by suspicious car in Nelson

A police officer was knocked to the ground by offenders in a suspicious vehicle in Nelson.

The frightening incident happened on Saturday when a mobile patrol in Southfield Street observed a suspicious vehicle.

When officers made attempts to speak with the driver, the car was then driven at the officers knocking one of them to the ground.

Thankfully, a short time later both the driver and vehicle were located and the offender arrested.

On arrest the offender was also found in possession of a quantity of drugs and upon further inspection of the vehicle checks revealed that the vehicle in question had been displaying false plates.

A police spokesman said: "Thankfully we can say that officer is safe and well and has sustained minor injuries as a result."
