Police negotiators called after axe threat

Police negotiators had to be called to a house in Padiham when officers were threatened with an axe.

The incident happened shortly before 5am this morning (Wednesday) when police attended an address in St Leonard’s Street to make an arrest.

Upon their arrival, a man inside the house threatened officers with an axe.

Officers withdrew from the scene and negotiators attended.

A police spokesman confirmed that around 7-30am a 65 year-old man was arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and is currently in custody.
