Police make fresh appeal over 'life-changing injuries' assault

Detectives investigating a serious assault which has left a taxi driver with potentially life-changing injuries are still appealing for information that could help with the inquiry.

Police were called at around 7-45pm on Tuesday, initially to reports of a collision on Ruskin Avenue, Colne. However, officers attended and found a man, aged in his 60s, had been assaulted and suffered serious neck injuries.

It is believed he was punched to the ground and then assaulted by a man and a woman. Following the assault, the man and woman went to a property nearby.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he remains in a critical but stable condition. No arrests have been made at this stage but enquiries are ongoing.

Police are continuing to appeal for anyone with information or dashcam, CCTV or mobile phone footage to contact police. Officers are also keen to speak to the drivers of vehicles who were passing at the time.

Det. Insp. Martin Melvin, of East CID, said: “First and foremost our thoughts continue to remain with the victim and his family at this distressing time.

“Our investigation is very much ongoing and we are following a number of lines of enquiry in our search for those responsible for this nasty and cowardly crime.

“I know this incident will have caused a lot of concern in the community, particularly for taxi drivers, and I would like to reassure everyone that we are taking this incident incredibly seriously and we have increased patrols and the number of police vehicles in the area.”
