Police given more time to question suspect in Nelson murder investigation

Officers investigating the death of a man in Nelson on Friday have been given extra time to question a man detained on suspicion of his murder.

The 32-year-old was arrested after local man Tom Walker (65) was found with injuries at his address in Fir Street in the town. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Today, officers were granted a Warrant of Further Detention, which allows them to keep the arrested man in custody for questioning for an additional 36 hours.

Senior Investigating Officer, DCI Lee Wilson, from Lancashire’s Force Major Investigation Team said: “Our thoughts very much remain with Tom’s family and friends at this extremely sad and difficult time”.

“Our investigation is still on-going and so I would urge anyone who thinks they have any information that could help us to please come forward.”
