Police appeal after purse snatched

Police are appealing for information after a woman’s purse was snatched in town.

The 59-year-old woman was walking along Hurtley Street on Tuesday, February 17th, at 8pm when she was approached by three men.

As they were passing by one of then men bumped into her, causing her to drop her purse.

Another one of the men then picked it up and ran off with the original offender.

The third man offered to get it back and ran after the other two men before returning it to the woman with all its contents inside.

All three men were Asian. One was aged between 18 and 19 years old, another was around 20 and was wearing a parka coat and the third man – who gave the purse back to the victim – is thought to be around 22 years old.

Det. Sgt. Louise Darcy from Burnley CID said: “I am keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed this incident, particularly an elderly gentleman who we believe was around at the time.

“Similarly, if anyone has information about this at all, please contact us.”
