Pair bailed after Burnley road collision left teen in critical condition

Two people have been released on bail following a collision in Burnley on Saturday night.

The collision happened at 11-45pm on Saturday in Springfield Road, Burnley Wood, when a black VW Golf collided with an 18 year-old pedestrian who was crossing the road near to the junction with Hollingreave Road.

The pedestrian, who is from the local area, was left with serious head injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Royal Preston Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

Two people were arrested. A 36-year-old woman from Burnley was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and a 25-year-old man from Burnley was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice, driving while unfit through drink/drugs and causing serious injury through dangerous driving.

He was also arrested on suspicion of making off without payment in relation to an earlier incident.

Both have now been released on police bail until July 13th pending further enquiries.

Sgt Lee Harris, of the Road Policing Unit, said: “This collision has left a young man with some very serious injuries and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or who has any information which could assist with our investigation to come forward and contact the police.”
