A WOMAN who robbed a pensioner at her home in Padiham has been jailed for four-and-a-half years.
Vanessa Daly (45), of Shakespeare Street, Padiham, was sentenced at Burnley Crown Court today after pleading guilty to robbery on June 18th.
Daly approached the 77-year-old woman at her home in Hathaway Fold, Padiham, around 11am on April 3rd.
She asked the victim for a drink of water before threatening her and demanding money. She then grabbed the woman’s two handbags and when challenged, she pushed the elderly woman to the floor before running off.
The victim was not injured but was left shaken by the ordeal.
Daly was arrested within an hour of the offence and forensic evidence linked her to the scene.
Det. Insp. Dave Groombridge from Burnley CID said: “This was a terrifying ordeal for the elderly lady who was confronted in her own home. It was down to the fast actions of the police officers who were able to recover vital evidence including clothes which she had discarded and some of the stolen property that Daly was arrested so quickly.
“This was a very serious offence and I hope this acts as a warning to criminals that they will be targeted and dealt with robustly by the police and the courts.”
