A 21-year-old man has appeared before Burnley magistrates, accused of having a machete on Newman Street in the town.

Liam Brendan Travers, of St Anne’s Street, Padiham, is charged with possessing an offensive weapon in public on June 14. He did not indicate a plea.

The Bench decided the case should be heard at the crown court and the defendant was committed to the higher court on bail for a hearing on August 3.
