Anti-terrorism police investigating dissident republican terrorist activity have arrested a 50 year old man following a raid on a house in the Gannow area of Burnley.

The raid, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday, involved officers from the Police Service of Northern Ireland’s Serious Crime Branch with the assistance of officers from the North West Counter Terrorism Unit.

The man, originally from the Lurgan area of County Armagh in Northern Ireland, was returned to Northern Ireland for questioning at Antrim Serious Crime Suite.

Police enquiries are continuing. It is believed the terrorist activity under investigation dates back a number of years.
